For the first time ever, a Korean Food festival was held in Thimphu. The two-day festival, which ended today, was a part of the events to mark 30 years of diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Korea.

From kimche to rice cake, bibimbap,  japche and black sesame porridge, a group of Koreans from the country’s Food and Culture Academy prepared about 16 different Korean cuisines.

The Director of Korea’s Food and Culture Academy, Kim Soo Jin, said it is a great honour to be here presenting the actual culture and taste of Korea. “The food we prepared are some of the most popular dishes back home,” said Kim Soo Jin. “We hope the people here enjoyed it.While the ingredients came from home, we also bought some from here,” he added.

The team was invited by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Bangladesh. The embassy is also hosting a Korean Film festival, which began yesterday and ends tomorrow.

The embassy is also staging a concert on June 17, which will see a popular K-Pop icon PSY and four other Korean dance groups perform in Thimphu at the Changlingmithang stadium.

The diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Korea was established  in 1987.
