The City Bus Service of Bhutan Post will soon submit a proposal for 40 additional city buses to the Information and Communications Ministry. This is to provide transport services to schools within the Thimphu Thromde.

The City Bus Service recently made a presentation regarding the need for additional buses to the Finance Ministry. In response, they were asked to present it to their Board of Directors and the Information and Communications Ministry, through which the proposal will be submitted to the government.

“So what we presented was that, the number of busses that we will be getting, additional busses if we get, then what we will be doing is, we will be deploying them to schools like Mothithang, Rinchen Kuenphen, Changangkha,” said Pasang Tshering, the Manager of City Bus Service.

Following the success of the school bus pilot project in two schools, Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School and Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School, other schools of Thimphu Thromde demanded for similar services for their students.

“Under the pilot project, we have 12 buses catering to schools and it has been a success. So schools have asked for the bus service saying why Yangchenphu and Lungtenzampa schools are getting the privileges,” added Pasang Tshering. “They are unaware that it is a pilot project.”

The Manager of City Bus Service also said, if the proposal comes through, it will also help address the increasing traffic congestion in Thimphu Thromde, and provide efficient and timely transport services to the people. The City Bus Service Office plans to use the additional buses for public transportation whenever necessary.
