The pedestrian footpath from Lungtenzampa till Babesa roundabout will be completed by the end of this month. Constructed at an estimated cost of Nu 80 M, the pathway, after completion, is expected to benefit thousands including those physically challenged and cyclists.

Works to construct the 6-kilometre footpath started in June 2016. It was supposed to be complete by September last year. However, additional structures and labour were required for about half a kilometre of the stretch above Wang River. This hampered in meeting the initial deadline.

Electrical lines and water pipes laid along the walkway also delayed the works. “After initiating the work, water pipes, power and telephone cables were damaged and we had problems.  So we consulted Bhutan Power Corporation, Bhutan Telecom and Tashi Cell. We had to construct duct for all these lines,” said Thimphu Thrompon, Kinlay Dorjee.

Following such problems there were change in plans of the project. The Thrompon said that the office had to consider allocating resource properly through inspection and research so the facility is sustainable.
