The Indian Power Secretary, Ajay Kumar Bhalla called on the Prime Minister, Dasho Tshering Tobgay at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang, today.
Prime Minister thanked the Government of India for raising the Chhukha Hydropower tariff rates and informed the Indian Power Secretary, of the recent re-commission of Thimphu Mini Power Plant at Jungshina.
The power plant, which was set up in 1967 was the first hydropower plant in the country. “I have not allowed the Bhutan Power Corporation to upgrade the plant because this is where it began and we must keep it honest,” shared Lyonchhen to the Power Secretary of India.
Meanwhile, from the India’s side, the Power Secretary reaffirmed its cooperation in hydropower sector. “India would like to provide maximum level of cooperation in hydropower with Bhutan.”
That aside, Prime Minister and the Power Secretary discussed on implementation of Sankosh Hydroelectric Project and commissioning of Mangdechhu Hydropower plant, and also discussed about the ongoing construction of hydropower ventures.
