Sherubtse College in Kanglung has a salon of its own now.  Located in the college campus, the recently opened salon will offer haircut services to the students at minimal charges.

It’s run by the students for the students. Some 24 students are in charge of it. They had received trainings from a professional barber.

“We just have barber here and he is not always available,” Thinley Namgay, a third year student said.

“Now, with the salon in the campus, it would be easy to get haircuts.”

The college hopes the salon will bring health benefits as well. “When the students get hair cuts in their hostels, they often use the same blades, which is not healthy,” Dr. Yezer, the Dean of Student Affairs said.

“It could spread infections such as HIV/AIDS and hepatitis.”

It is also hoped that such initiative will help students inculcate entrepreneurship skills, which could pave the way for future employment opportunities.

The establishment of the salon is also part of the events commemorating golden jubilee celebrations of the college this year.
