Her Majesty the Queen Mother Tseyring Pem Wangchuck donated Nu 6m to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the National Referral Hospital in Thimphu today. This money will be used to enhance the hospital’s capacity in providing ICU care to more children.
Two sets of ICU beds fitted with all required equipment will be procured with the donated money.
“We have been facing shortage of ICU capacity since we had only 5 beds. Sometimes we had to really defer admission of children to ICUs because of shortage of beds. Now with the increase of 7 beds, I hope that we will be able to manage the patient and then provide the necessary intensive care to the children that need intensive care admission,” told Lhab Dorji, the President of Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH) to BBS News.
Following the donation, Her Majesty the Queen Mother granted an audience to the heads of departments and divisions of the JDWNRH.
