Without BBS television and radio signal at Lauri, Serthig and Langchenphu Gewogs in Samdrup Jongkhar, people said they are not able watch and listen to the news and programmes, especially the ongoing National Council debates.
When the rest of the electorates in the country are glued to their television set, watching live NC debates, voters of these three gewogs are not able to do so. And they are more despondent today since they are going to miss live debate of Samdrup Jongkhar NC candidates.
“Our TVs don’t receive the signal of BBS TV channel and it’s same with radio. Samdrup Jongkhar has many candidates and watching the debate would be crucial for us to decide whom to vote,” Pema Dendup from Lauri Gewog said.
His friends from Serthig Gewog have similar predicament. “We are not aware of how NC candidates are presenting themselves. We won’t able to able to decide properly as to which candidate would be suitable to represent our district,” said Tshering.
Bhutan Broadcasting Service (BBS)’s technical department said FM radio signal will be connected in those three gewogs after National Council elections. Currently, installation of FM tower is underway in Serthig Gewog.
“But when it comes to television, as we have already said before, we are waiting for the South Asia Satellite where public can get BBS 1 and 2 signal through satellite like any other dish TV and DTH services, so this may come very soon,” said Chief Engineer of BBS, Sherub Tharchen.
With works underway to connect both the TV and radio signal, it’s hoped that electorates in Lauri, Serthig and Langchenphu Gewogs can soon get to watch and listen to news and programmes before the parliamentary election ends.
