With a capacity to accommodate 80 light vehicles, the newly built car park of Bajo opened yesterday. With this, the problem of parking congestion in the town is expected to be eased to a large extent.

Up until now, the people in the town, including taxi drivers, struggled to find parking space.

“There are about 220 taxis in Bajo alone, so it was very hard for everyone to find a spot to park their cars,” Dzongkhag Tshogdu Chairperson Tenzin Wangchuk said.

“Therefore, we requested the dzongkhag and constructed the new car park.”

“Till now, even private cars used the taxi parking area because of lack of parking space in the town,” Tsagay, a member of  Wangdue Taxi Association said.

The new car park, exclusively designed for light vehicles, was constructed at a cost of Nu 4.4 m from the dzongkhag.

The car park is also equipped with toilets.

The car park is a part of a series of planned development works for Bajo. Other plans include constriction of a recreational park and a cinema hall.

“We have given a plot above the car park for the construction of a cinema hall. We are planning to develop Bajo into a model town in the 12th Five Year Plan,” the DT Chairperson said.

A vegetable market is also under construction and the town will be extended till Bajo Lhakhang.
