It has been such a relief to farmers and vendors in Haa for getting to vend their agricultural products in a newly constructed vegetable shed. Otherwise, they had been enduring dust and bracing scorching heat to eke out their living.
Vendors from different parts of Haa started their commercial activities at the Sunday Vegetable Market since three months ago. Every Sunday, they get up early in the morning to hit the market but that doesn’t bother them since it has created a favourable situation for them to do business.
Taugay has been a vendor for over a decade and has a fair account of challenges he faced. “Earlier, the shed was not in good condition. We had to sell our crops in rain. Today, the new market has better facilities. We don’t have to struggle for proper space to sell our farm produce.”
Like him, a few other vendors shared how the new vegetable market has benefited them.
“It was extremely challenging to vend our crops before when the shed was in a worn-out state. Today, with proper CGI roofing and other additional facilities, making a living is not so difficult,” said Pem.
Other than vendors from Haa, vendors from Punakha also come to the Sunday Vegetable Market to do business.
“The vegetable market here is very convenient place to vend our products. It is clean and hygienic,” added Tandin Wangchuk.
The newly vegetable market comprises of four sheds and has the capacity to accommodate some 100 vendors. The structure was constructed with Nu 3.5m from the Dzongkhag Development Grant last year.
