Kuzhugchen and Yangchen Gatshel Middle Secondary schools in Thimphu District will be upgraded to central schools in the upcoming Five-Year-Plan (12th FYP).
The dzongkhag education sector has allocated over Nu 125m for the infrastructure development of these two central schools. Yangchen Gatshel Middle Secondary School is located in Dakarla Gewog under South Thimpu while Kuzhugchen Middle Secondary School in Kawang Gewog under North Thimphu.

The research survey states, 70 per cent of students in Kuzhugchen are found suitable to be enrolled in central schools. “We have growing number of students who need these kinds of supports. We have children from very humble backgrounds, broken families,” said the Chief District Education Officer, adding: “We also have children who are spillover effect of Thimphu Thromde issues pertaining to dysfunctional families and abuses.”
The study was carried out by the dzongkhag education office in collaboration with school and local leaders of Kawang Gewog last year.
Once established, children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds are expected to achieve quality education.
