Bhutan will soon have its first pharmaceutical plant to manufacture, package and distribute wide range of prescribed medicines.
The plant will be constructed at Montanga Industrial Estate in Samdrup Jongkhar. The project’s groundbreaking ceremony or salang tendrel was held at the site today.
A joint venture companies: Azista Industries Private Limited (based in India) and Druk Holding and Investments (DHI) will construct the pharmaceutical plant.
The DHI came up with this project to not only curb the import of medicine from other countries but also to promote locally manufactured medicines in global market by exporting to India and abroad.
Once operational, plant will manufacture about 99 different products which will heal 17 various diseases.
The pharmaceutical plant is expected to be complete in second quarter of 2019. The project is worth around Nu 200m.
