The busy streets in and around Phuentshogling Thromde will get decongested this summer. The ongoing multi-level car parking construction project will be ready by August this year.
Local authorities said the primary reason of traffic chaos in the town is due to lack of car parks.
The three-storey parking facility is nearing completion. Workers at the site are racing against the clock to complete the work before August.
Once ready, the parking lot will have space to accommodate 200 cars. The space will also be allotted to taxis.
“After the parking is complete, we are expecting to shift there. At present, taxis are parked at RSTA parking. Multi-level parking is ultimate solution to increasing congestion,” said Tshewang Dorji, Tshogpa of Bhutan Taxi Association in Phuentshogling.
Motorists also hope the multi-level parking will ease the traffic congestion which has escalated in recent times.
“It is so difficult to get parking in town. We have to do several rounds to get a parking space. I am happy the multi-level car park will be of immense help,” said Sonam Penjor.
The multi-storey parking lot was supposed to be complete in December last year. However, due to change in the design, the project missed the deadline.
“We had to change the entire design of the parking. The underground cable lines also impeded the construction. By July end or first week of August, the contractor will hand over the work,” said Uttar Kumar Rai, Thrompon of Phuentshogling Thromde.
As of now, 80 five per cent of work is over. The project started in July 2016 and costs nearly Nu 64m.
