After remaining in bad state for about five decades, the Sangngachholing Gewog Centre road was recently blacktopped.
The 4.2km road connects to all the five chiwogs to the main road leading to the district centre. The Information and Communications Minister, DN Dhungyel inaugurated the newly blacktopped stretch on Sunday.
This development has brought joy to the villagers there.
“Getting a taxi ride will now be easier as the road has been blacktopped. Previously, the route was not at all trafficable,” said one of the locals, Biray Pradhan.
“We are happy that our GC road is blacktopped. Otherwise the dilapidated road often damaged our vehicles,” said another villager, Asha Pradhan.
Sangngachholing Gup, Kalyan Pradhan said the road will help farmers to transport their produce to nearby market.
“We proposed for the blacktopping of the road during the Prime Minister’s visit in our gewog. The blacktopped road would facilitate farmers to boost their agricultural income.”
Although the inauguration of the road was held on Sunday, it opened to traffic since a month ago. People are also looking forward to re-instituting the gewog bus service, which was discontinued recently to repair the bus.
Thirteen GC roads in Samtse have been blacktopped so far. The remaining two GC roads are yet to be blacktopped.
