The two students in Phuentshogling immediately returned Nu 49,000 cash found by the lower market of the town to its rightful owner on Saturday night.

Today, they are acknowledged as the flag bearer of honesty and integrity in their respective schools: Phuentshogling Higher Secondary School and Norbu Academy.

Pema Choki, 18, and Tandin Wangchuk, 19 told BBS News that without a second thought, they informed the police about the lost money.

“I had to call police because I can’t take the money home as it belongs to someone else. I am happy the owner has got back the money,” added Pema Choki.

Their schools presented a token of appreciation- ceremonial scarf and cash to them. Their social media accounts were also flooded with praises.

“I didn’t get time to discuss with my colleagues but I felt the girl should be acknowledged for her honest deed. She sets an example of honesty and integrity,” said Yangki Dem, Principal of Phuentshogling Higher Secondary School.

Meanwhile, the owner of the lost money is grateful to the two students for giving back the cash.
