Chumey Technical Training Institute (CTTI) and Jigme Wangchuck Power Training Institute (JWPTI) are this year’s top two technical training providers in the country.
This was declared today as both institutes came first with tied points at the Quality Excellence Award for 2018. The biennial event is organised to improve and maintain the standard of public training providers in the country.
Six technical training institutes and two institutes for Zorig Chusum all registered with the labour ministry competed for the Award this year. The institutes were judged on seven criterion including their infrastructures, courses, quality management systems, and governance amongst others.
The two winning teams each received a cash prize of Nu 100,000 and certificates.
“I am very happy for this is the first time JWPTI received an award. This is the result of hard work my students and instructors have put in,” Palden Tshering, Training Director of JWPTI told to BBS News.
The Principal of Chumey TTI, Pema Tshering underlined similar opinions and added: “This award is trying not to differentiate but to bring some sort of improvement and learning that we can make. This purely gives us motivation to improve further.”
The initiative is to recognise and reward institutes that are working towards quality management system.
“When you actually churn out technical training graduates from vocational institutes like ours, it’s important to have quality skilled workers. So quality is not just the trainees themselves, it is actually the management, infrastructure and facilities that should be in place,” said Yeshey Khandu, Chief Programme Officer of the Department of Occupational Standard.
She also said the private institutes were not included as they are not at the same level with the public institutions. However, they are planning to create a separate category award for them in future.
Appreciation certificates were given to Chumey TTI and Samthang TTI. The quality excellence award started in 2014.
