The Ministry of Health of Bhutan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand.

The MoU was signed today by the health ministers of the two countries in Thai capital Bangkok.

The signing represents an unprecedented renewal of the agreement that was signed on 16th October, 1987 in Bangkok to continue the existing cooperation and to promote new areas of collaboration in matters relating to health.

Under the MoU, both sides agree to enhance cooperation in the areas of disease control, food safety and drug quality testing, traditional medicine, and medical and cosmetic products.

The two countries will also collaborate in laboratory quality assurance, human resource for health, health impact assessment, drug treatment and rehabilitation services, medical education and research and national regulatory system.

The health minister said the collaboration in health development between the two kingdoms, which started in 1987, has immensely benefited Bhutan’s Health System, particularly in the areas of medical education and development of health professionals.

This MoU, he said, will further cement the already close ties between the two kingdom’s monarchs and people.
