Twelve households of Layshingri village under Dechhenling Gewog, Pema Gatshel will have proper houses to live in by the end of this year.
This has been made possible with assistance from Tarayana Foundation, a civil society organisation through its Rural Economic Adaptation Programme (REAP).
These days, some of the beneficiaries are busy doing preparatory works such as gathering wooden poles to construct houses, while a few others have already completed their houses.
One of them is Sangay.
“Earlier, our houses were made of bamboo. But now, the roofing and flooring have improved and we thank Her Majesty Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck for the support,” he added.
Other beneficiaries also expressed their gratitude to Her Majesty’s foundation for realising their dreams of building a house.
“Without Tarayana’s help, it is impossible to construct a proper house. The foundation provided us CGI sheets and other raw materials,” said Tenzin Dorji.
Villagers said, with properly built houses, sanitation in the village will also improve. Today, there are 18 households in Layshingri village.
