The Bhutan Standards Bureau (BSB) will now focus on prioritising standards developed by different sectors in the country to come up with national standards. The Bureau will work on those standards that are of national importance.
For instance, if the tourism sector has developed their standards in the interest of the nation, the Bhutan Standards Bureau or BSB will first focus on developing it as the national standards. Gradually it will be incorporated with the International standards.
At the first National Standards Conclave held in the capital last week, officials said prioritising standards for different sectors will help in developing right national standards.
The Executive Engineer with BSB, Karma Tshetrim said they conducted a study to know the current standards scenario in Bhutan.
“We have learnt that there are lots of standards developed within the agencies. Some of the standards are well done and some aren’t. That is why we want to collaborate with different agencies and improve those good standards to national level,” he added.
The prioritised standards will also assist the BSB in using limited resources from various sectors towards achieving a national goal.
The national standards are important to bring in the whole Testing Procedures Conformity Assessment in one standard. It will be the tool to monitor the quality of products and services.
Today, BSB facilitates in providing services to develop standards and represents International Organisation for Standardisation, ISO and South Asian Regional Standards Organisation.
