Swarms of millipedes invading homes in Kuchenpakha of Tendruk Gewog, Samtse has left the people in the village worried.

The villagers have been collecting and dumping the creatures on a daily basis since they first appeared a week ago.

With increasing millipedes entering their homes, especially during early morning and night hours, they fear it might cause health problems.

However, the Plant Protection Officer with the Entomology Unit in Thimphu says millipedes are not considered as pest and pose only minimal risk to health.

The unit says people should seal cracks and other openings in the walls to prevent millipedes from entering into their homes. Reducing mulch and other organic matter, and getting rid of home moisture and humidity also helps.

This is the first time millipede infestation has been recorded, according to the National Plant Protection Centre.
