Shemagangkha Primary School in Chapcha Gewog of Chhukha had been faced with enrollment issues with not enough students enrolled in the school. Yesterday, the school received 57 students from three schools in Phuentshogling.
The new students were welcomed with a khadar ceremony as they arrived, escorted by their parents and teachers from their previous schools.
The student transfer initiative was taken to address low enrollment at Shemagangkha Primary School. The move comes after Dzongkhag Tshogdu resolved to allow interested students from other schools in Chhukha to enroll in Shemagangkha Primary School.
Most of the students are from Chumithang Pry School. “Chumithang School doesn’t have boarding facility unlike here,” Palden Dorji said.
“As of now, I like the school and the place. The school is located in a beautiful village. There are more friends here. I am happy to be here.”
The school now has over a hundred students. Shemagangkha Primary School was constructed with funds from the UNICEF in 2013.
