Much to the relief of the people of Dorjitse in Sarpang, the village will be relocated to another place. This is expected to help boost the socio-economic conditions of the villagers.
With seven households, Dorjitse is a scattered settlement. It is located about six kilometres away from the Tareythang Gewog Office and considered among the remote villages in the gewog.
“It will be convenient for us since we will be closer to our gewog office and the school,” said one of the villagers, Garjaman Rana.
“Since there were plans of relocation, we did not get funds for irrigation channel and we couldn’t carry out paddy cultivation. We have grown maize but wild animals keep attacking the crop,” added another villager, Santabir Rai.
The gewog administration has already written to higher authorities for approval of the relocation. People of Dorjitse will be re-settled at Woongchilu, which is near the gewog office.
“People have agreed to our proposal and we have acquired the no objection letter from them. We identified the relocation area after putting it through the gewog administration and Dzongkhag Tshogdu,” said Dhan Man Gurung, Mangmi of Tareythang Gewog.
Gewog officials said Woongchilu has a vast area of vacant state land and is suitable for human settlement.
