His Majesty The King graced the opening ceremony of the 11th Session of the Second Parliament earlier today.
In his address, the Speaker, on behalf of the members of the parliament, thanked His Majesty for gracing the opening ceremony. He also expressed gratitude to His Majesty for inaugurating the Nganglam-Gyalpoizhing Highway.
The Speaker congratulated the newly elected members of the National Council.
The 11th Session of the Second Parliament will see the National Assembly hold deliberations on the interim budget for Fiscal Year 2018-2019 and a presentation on the Annual Report by the prime minister on the State of the Nation.
The National Assembly members will deliberate on the eight disputed clauses of the Audit Bill of the Kingdom of Bhutan 2017 and the Annual Anti-Corruption Report 2017 among others.
In the afternoon, the National Council held a separate opening ceremony for its 21st Session. The Prime minister and the National Assembly Speaker attended the opening session.
During the session, the House of Review will hold deliberations on the follow-up reports on the resolutions of the 20th Session of the National Council on the Legal Aid to Indigent Persons, G2C Services, Local Government Members’ Leave Entitlement and Allocating Budget for Black-topping of Chuzomsa-Baylandra Road.
The session will also table the Agreement between Bhutan and Bangladesh for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes of Income.
Members will also deliberate on Annual Anti-Corruption Report 2017 and Budget and Appropriation Bill for the Financial Year 2018-2019.
The two-week long 11th Session of the Second Parliament concludes on the 29th of this month.
